Alaskan Cruises
Can be a Dream Come True
Without a doubt, cheap Alaskan cruises can
provide some of the most magical, fantastical vacations ever
taken. The water, the landscape, and the beauty for which
Alaska is so well known is unimaginably amazing. The
relaxation, fun, and excitement of cruises themselves are
something not to be missed. Unfortunately, too many people may
miss out on this singularly incredible experience. This is
mainly because there are so many myths about Alaska in general
and cruises to and around Alaska in general. Myths and
misconceptions are no reason to miss out on such a stellar
opportunity, though, especially when they are easily debunked.
How easily? Read on to see for yourself!
One prevailing myth about cruises to Alaska is
that you will absolutely, without a doubt, get to see the
Aurora Borealis. Some people go on these cruises just to see
the famed Northern Lights – without actually asking their
travel agent, the employees of the cruise company, or anyone
familiar with the area – whether or not that is true. They
assume that the Aurora Borealis is visible in Alaska all year
round, seven days a week, twenty four hours a day. When they do
not see the dazzling lights in the sky, it is somehow the
cruise line's fault. They then go on to complain about every
aspect of the cruise. That is just poor sportsmanship!
However, you can see the
Northern Lights during your cruise. All you need to do is make
sure that it will include an inland tour. It is when you are
inland that you can see the Aurora Borealis, which is
definitely a sight to behold. Otherwise, consider booking the
cruise when the season begins. Then you are far more likely to
see the beautiful phenomenon while you are on board.
Another troublesome myth is that there are
certain times of the year when it is too cold to visit Alaska –
namely May and September. Actually, most cruise ships take
routes that will ensure enduring climates quite like those seen
along the West Coast. In addition, the ships themselves make
sure the keep the temperatures completely comfortable. It will
be warm enough for swimming but cool enough so you do not
swelter.
At the moment, you can enjoy an Alaskan cruise
without a passport. Next year, however, it looks like they will
be mandatory, at least for most cruise lines.
A distressingly large amount of people assume
that it will always be raining on a cruise to Alaska. While it
is true that there is a lot of rain, it definitely is not
constant. Besides, there has to be a lot of rain, otherwise all
the lush, vibrant greenery for which Alaska is known would be
non existent. However, like say, it does not rain all the time.
You can reduce the chances of much rain at all by carefully
choosing when to book passage. Otherwise, just realize that,
more than likely, you will enjoy a refreshing mix of rain and
shine – just like you do anywhere else!
Many people also believe that they have to
board ship in Seattle, Washington, because it is the cheapest
way to cruise. Quite the contrary, it may be somewhat
cheaper to fly into Seattle, but cruising is not flying.
Cruises are becoming extremely popular. This is leading to
competitive rates among cruise lines all up and down the
West Coast, and in Canada. Again, when you choose to go on
your cruise can also affect the price. Too, a lot of
cruise lines are offering special deals and discounts
quite frequently. So really, there is practically no set
price.
Myths about motion sickness abound when it
comes to any kinds of cruises. A number of travelers insist
that which section of the boat you stay and play on will make a
difference when it comes to motion sickness or seasickness. It
does not matter whether you are at the front of the boat or the
back. It does not matter if you are at the bow or on the upper
floors. However, if you do suffer from extreme motion sickness,
choosing a cabin in the very lower floors may be helpful.
Otherwise, you simply need to understand that cruise ships are
not like other boats on which you may have ridden. They are
big, heavy, solid boats. You probably will not be moving around
as much as you fear.
Similarly, people seem to
think that they need to be on one side of the boat or the
other, or else they will not have a good view of the scenery.
That is just silly! Besides, if you are on the right side of
the boat, you will get to see everything you missed on the way
back, and vice versa. That hardly matters though. No side is
superior to the other. Trust and believe, the view will be
utterly breathtaking from both sides of the boat. Besides, when
you wander up to the top floors of your cruise ship, you are
going to be able to see for miles in every possible direction
anyway.
Unfortunately, many would be travelers put off
booking their cruise tickets until the very last minute. They
do so because they believe they will get a better deal that
way. That may be true for Caribbean cruises, but Alaskan
cruises are another matter entirely. They generally sell out
very quickly, not to mention far in advance.
Lastly, similar to the myth about Aurora
Borealis, a lot of people only go on an Alaskan cruise because
they think they are going to see polar bears. However, polar
bears live in the northern most area of Alaska, so that is
highly unlikely – again, unless you book an inland tour as well
and intend to trek up north, which is an incredibly beautiful
region. Still, you will see lots of amazing wildlife, include
grizzly bears in the wild.
The point is, taking a cruise ship to Alaska is
gorgeous. It is fun, exciting, and you will never in life
experience such beautiful sights. Alaska is full of often
mysterious beauty, and experiencing it on a luxurious,
comfortable cruise is one of the best possible ways.
